「コスプレ」とはコスチューム・プレイの略です。コスチューム・プレイといっても演劇用語とは少々意味が違って、様々な作品（漫画、アニメ、ビデオ・ゲーム、小説、映画、演劇他）に登場する衣装する様々な衣装を身に纏って楽しむことです。纏うことそのものだけでなく、衣装や小物の製作、写真撮影やゴッコ遊びなど様々な楽しみ方があります。
"COS-PLAY" is a Japanese abbreviated word of "costume play". In japan, however, "costume play" is not a theatrical term. COS-PLAY is a dressing various costumes, which are appeared on various works (animations, video games, novels, movies, drama, TV programs, etc.), as a hobby. The pleasures of COS-PLAY are not only dressing itself but making costumes, taking photos, playing a characters of it's sources, etc.
